A Street Cat Named Bob - James Bowen

I sometimes avoid books that are ‘true life’ stories or ones that are about remarkable animals. I love animals as much as the next person but sometimes I can get a bit bored with hearing about their lives! (sorry!) The only reason I picked up this book was because I saw an interview with the author on BBC Breakfast who had his cat Bob with him; Bob was just chilling on the sofa! Owning four cats myself, I found it intriguing that this cat was so docile, well behaved and beautiful!
I consumed this book in one afternoon and in one sitting too. It was an incredible read, I imagine that if you are also a cat owner you would appreciate how impressive this cat called Bob really is.
James is a recovering drug addict living in sheltered housing in London when he stumbles across a ginger cat outside his block of flats. He walks past for a few days and notices that this cat is still there, so takes it to the RSPCA to have it checked out and to see who it belongs to. Unfortunately this cat has quite a nasty abscess on his leg and needs to be looked after for a while so James offers to look after him. Whilst the cat is recovering, James goes on a mission to try and find where the cat came from so he can reunite him with his owner, but alas the search is far from successful and he realises that this cat may just be another street cat.
He decides to release the cat back into ‘the wild’ and let it get back to its street ways but the cat will not leave James alone!! He follows him on the bus, on the tube and eventually James realises that they are meant to be together.
Bob has become a worldwide sensation with people all over the world wanting to visit him. Quite remarkable for a cat! This book is 100% true to life and is a great read, especially if you are a cat lover yourself.
The writing is easy and addictive and I am sure you won't be able to put this gem down!
