Any Way You Want Me is Lucy Diamond’s first novel. I have read so many different reviews about this book and it appears that it really has divided people. Some love it and some hate it! I would say that I was slap bang in the middle. After reading other novels by Lucy, I would say that this is not my favourite, but still, it is a really good read that would be perfect for the beach or sitting with a picnic in the park.
Any Way You Want Me is about Sadie, a new mother who seems to have it all. She has the loving partner, the cute baby, a nice house, good friends but for some reason it isn’t enough for her. She feels like something is missing. Gone are the days of working and partying, gone are the days of feeling sexy and wanted. Maybe she could create a fictional persona for a little fun, nothing serious but something for her to look forward too…
However, there is a fine line between fantasy and reality and soon they overlap and Sadie has to figure out whether her alter ego really is better than her real life. With a husband and child at stake, will Sadie make the right decision?
As I previously said, this is the first book I read by Lucy and at the time I really enjoyed it. I liked the plot, I liked the characters and I found that even though Sadie’s actions were sometimes a bit selfish, I still found myself rooting for her. It wasn’t until I read Lucy’s other books that this one went down a few notches and others took the place of this one. However, when starting to discover a new author I think it is important to start from the beginning as you can visibly see how much they progress over the course of three or four novels. I think Lucy’s latest, Me & Mr Jones is her best work yet.
So, whilst this isn’t Lucy’s best book, it is still a really great read that will have you confused as to what you would do in Sadie’s situation and leave you wondering who you really think is in the right.
