One of the best parts of being a reviewer is having wonderful publishers and authors sending copies of new novels weeks before their official publication date. I get so excited when a book arrives that I've been looking forward to for ages and it goes straight onto my TBR pile. The only downside to reviewing is the sheer volume of books I have to get through. Whilst it is a downside, it is by no means a problem! It just means some books I may have bought a few months ago or books I haven't reviewed by their publication date sit in a pile and look a bit sorry for themselves, wondering why I haven't read them yet.
So, in comes the idea of a book jar. I've seen this before on youtube where booktubers (youtubers who vlog about books) have created them and I have wanted to make my own for a while.
The basic idea behind a book jar is you fill a jar with books you want to read and each week or month you pick a title out of the jar and read that book.
I've edited this idea slightly and have decided that for every new book I pick up and read, I will pick out an older book and read that too. Hopefully this will mean I get to read all the brand new books as they are published but I also get to read books that have been sitting around for a while! I currently have a stupidly long pile of books I am reading at the moment (9!!) but as soon as that pile is finished the book jar will become active!
I'm really excited to read some books I haven't had the chance to yet and then share the reviews with you all.
If you want to make a book jar or something similar then it is REALLY simple. All you need is a jar and some paper!

I love candles and I had an old Yankee Candle jar that I'd cleaned out and had sitting around. I love this jar because it has a lid too! You can use any kind of jar or jug or box....anything that you fancy really! An old jam jar would work well, a mug, a pencil case...anything you can store bits of paper in.
Once I'd decided on the jar I went through my bookshelves and my TBR pile and made a note of some of the books I haven't yet read.

I could have easily written down 100+ titles but I kept it a little tame and went for just 48(!!!) Once I'd written them all down, I folded them all up and shuffled them before stuffing them in the jar. So now every time I start a brand new book, I'll also start one that has been sitting around for a while. Once the jar is empty I will then fill it with more titles.
I think this a really cool idea and I am super excited to start using it!
Have you got a book jar? Do you want to make one now? If you have one or make one, I'd love to see your pictures! Tweet me with #bookjar and a picture and I'll add them to this site! I can't wait to see what you come up with.
Happy reading! xx
