Interview With Jane Linfoot
I recently had the chance to read the brilliant The Right Side Of Mr Wrong by the lovely Jane. I also had the chance to talk to the lovely author herself!
What was your inspiration behind this book?
Generally I get my inspiration from random places, and merge lots of ideas together until I get something that works. With The Right Side Of Mr Wrong the heroine, Shea, was inspired by someone I met at a hen party, and Brando grew out of an article I read in a Sunday paper, about a rock star who lived in isolation. The main plot idea came from a TV programme I saw, where a playboy had a neglected Scottish castle he never visited, and the presenter suggested he needed a wife to help him with all the work he needed to tackle. It was a fabulous location, which looked perfect to use in a novel, and when I went on the website to find out where it was I discovered that lots of women had left messages on the website offering to marry the guy! Awesome! So The Right Side Of Mr Wrong grew from that!
What was your favourite part to write?
Some books are a struggle, but The Right Side of Mr Wrong was a blast to write. I loved every bit of it, because I had such fun hanging out with Shea and Brando. You’d think it would be great to get to the part where you write “The End”, but by the time I got to that bit I had tears rolling down my face, both because of the emotion (even though it does have a happy ending!), and because I was so sad that my time with Shea and Brando had come to an end.
If you could have dinner with any other author (dead or alive) in the world, who would you choose?
Dinner with Nora Ephron would be great.
Can you tell us anything about what you’re working on at the moment?
I don’t tend to write series, but my characters do have a habit of spilling from one novel into another. My current wip is about Brando’s sister, Bryony. She plays a significant part in The Right Side Of Mr Wrong, and she’s a really strong character, so now she’s getting her own story, but this will be a much bigger read, as it’s almost twice as long! And we do get to see Shea and Brando again in this.
Quick-fire:
Oooo, fun, I love these, but they’re hard, as I find it so hard to make up my mind about things, and I don’t really do favourites...
