Ok. So I didn’t really like this book.
I feel that since the whole fifty-shades of grey movement everyone seems to feel the need to write erotic fiction and include sex in all of their books and to be honest I’m a bit sick of it now! I don’t mind the occasional sex scene (who doesn’t?) but it gets a bit tedious if that is what the book is based around. I tried to read fifty shades but gave up about halfway through because the writing was rubbish and the storyline was just silly. However I was determined to not let that book stop me from reading others in the genre so when I saw this one I was intrigued.
It had a LOT of reviews and I was interested to see what all the fuss was about but if I’m honest it bored me, it was too nicey nicey and a bit childish if i’m honest. I -think- this is a YA book which is why it may be like that.
The plot is actually an interesting one and I think it could make a brilliant book but it just felt quite underdeveloped. I would have loved to find out more about Garrick’s past and seen more of the troubles of trying to conduct a relationship in private rather than it all being based around Bliss trying to lose her virginity.
Bliss is a theatre student and is out with her friend in a club one night when she bumps into a handsome British guy called Garrick. She takes him home and they nearly have sex but then she stops him just before because she is a virgin and doesn’t feel ready. She is embarrassed and glad she never has to see him again. That is until she goes to her first lecture of the term and finds out Garrick is her lecturer. AWKWARD.
I hated Garrick. I actually couldn’t stand him! Also, why did he call Bliss ‘love’ all the time?! ‘Love’ is what my grandad would call me, not a sexy boyfriend! Also I just have a personal hatred for words like ‘panties’ and ‘butt’ which were quite prominent in this book!
Also why is the guy on the cover so young?! Why isn’t there a sexy, unshaven man?!
Now whilst this wasn’t my cup of tea, I can completely see it fitting into the YA genre and being loved by teenage girls. However, don’t get your hopes up girls (you probably won’t find a Garrick and lose your virginity so nicely!!)
Anyway, I wouldn’t tell you to not read this book, however I would say if you don’t like the whole 50 shades thing then avoid this book.
