Midsummer Magic - Julia Williams

I think you would find it extremely difficult to find someone that hasn’t heard of Shakespeare and his famous plays. At school I studied The Tempest and Much Ado but never had the chance to learn about A Midsummer Night’s Dream so I went into this book with extremely limited knowledge about what this plot could entail.
Josie has recently become engaged to her one true love Harry and is eagerly planning the wedding of her dreams. She decides that they should both visit her parents down in Cornwall with her bridesmaid and Harry’s best man so they can make all the final plans for the big day. Reluctantly, Diana and Ant, the bridesmaid and best man tag along and they make their way down to Cornwall. However, Diana and Ant know each other from the past and have a lot of tension between them. Add on top a reluctant Harry, a bossy Josie, a TV hypnotist a ‘once famous’ actress and a hot summers night and you’re in for a whole lot of trouble!
This was a really quick summer read that, although was predictable in parts, was still enjoyable and had me wanting to read on to find out what would happen next. Julia writes really well and you can’t help but wish you were in the Cornish countryside in the middle of the summer as you read this! I think if you had knowledge of Shakespeare’s play then you may be able to pick up on some added humor or little hints that Julia makes back to the play. I recognised some character names but that was about it! (As I said I have little knowledge about A Midsummer Night’s Dream.)
A light, fun summer read that will have you questioning the truth of your feelings.
