I have heard about Annabel’s books SO often and was incredibly happy when an email arrived in my inbox asking if I wanted to review her latest book. Having not read any of Annabel’s work before I was incredibly excited and, after being reassured this was a stand alone novel, I couldn’t wait to get started.
Millie is a typical English rose who ends up flying out to America for a year of studying abroad. Whilst she is in America she meets all kinds of characters. From the sorority sisters who seem to care about nothing but themselves, to the fraternity brothers who want to get on anything that has a pulse. Can Millie fit into this strange world of beer pong, apple pie shots and house parties as well as completing her academic studies and finding a boyfriend?
I loved Annabel’s style of writing. It was really easy to read and flowed seamlessly from one chapter to the next. The opening to each chapter was clever; it was an email sent from Millie to her girlfriends at home which helped to fill the reader in on other aspects of her life that weren’t covered in the main plot. This also cleverly helped to cover any plot holes that could have occurred.
I loved Millie as a character. She was funny to read about, especially when she does the house crawl about halfway through the book. Her excuses to get out of drinking a shot and downing some beer had me giggling. BUT at no time would I advocate taking your top off…..!
There are plenty of men in this book to get excited over. There’s Carl, Joel, Rob and that’s just the start! I am super excited to be able to go back and read the sequel to this book called Millie And The American Wedding. (That book was released before this book and this book is the prequel! Make sense?!)
I can’t wait to see what else comes from Annabel. I am incredibly excited about what will come from her pen next.
