Emma Garcia has previously written children’s books, but this is her debut adult novel and what a debut it is!
From the second I saw the cover I was desperate to read this book. It didn’t disappoint.
Viv is sick of Rob, her fiancee, breaking off their engagement. When he breaks it off for the third time, she decides that enough is enough and moves out of their house to show him how much he is missing when she is no longer there. What Viv doesn’t count on is Rob finding new love with Sam, a gorgeous blonde bombshell who is sporting a huge rock on her ring finger. HOW DID HE MOVE ON SO QUICKLY.
Hearbroken and confused, Viv goes on a mission to get her man back. She spends her time googling heartbreak and decides to set up her own website called nevergooglehearbreak.com where anyone who is heartbroken can meet others in the same situation as them. Through her journey of heartbreak, she spends time with Max, her best friend from uni, finds herself fretting over slogans for candy underwear and worries about her aging nana. Whilst life seems to be passing her by, she is ever hopeful that Rob will realise the error of his ways and come back to her. But Viv has to learn that sometimes things happen for a reason and what you want might actually be the last thing you need…
This is a blinding debut novel and had me hooked from the first page. It is a sexy, humorous, witty read that will definitely have you giggling at the comedy of it all.
Viv is a brilliant character and some of the situations she finds herself in are hilarious. Whilst this book is funny and lighthearted, there are some more serious aspects that are written well. Emma has cleverly laid this book out with extracts from Viv’s website at the beginning of each chapter with things such at How To Tell He Loves You to Top Tips To Get Over A Broken Heart, these are a great addition to the book and made me eager to get to the next chapter! All of the characters are well formed and I adored Max and Viv’s nana; both were adorable and Max’s sense of humour was just spot on. I can’t recommend this book enough!
A must read for any chick lit fan!
