There is a part of my brain that refuses to suspend disbelief which is why I never choose to read fantasy/sci-fi fiction because it just doesn’t work for me. I can never get into the story and the events confuse me! So, when I read the blurb to this book I was sceptical, I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it. However, once I’d got my head around what was going on and forgot the implausibility of it, I couldn’t put it down!
Rowena is an antiques dealer and has in her possession an old armoire. As she inspects it and decides what work needs to be done to restore it, she comes across an old key and a mirror which is linked to another realm. On the other side of the mirror is a Prince and Rowena is sure it is her friend Ollie setting up an elaborate prank. Yet Ollie knows nothing about this mirror and the prince explains he needs the key Rowena has to save his kingdom. Rowena knows the prince needs her help but she also knows she’s falling in love with him. Can she sacrifice everything for love?
SO
I did have to try my hardest to get lost in the story so I didn’t keep questioning everything that happened but after the first few chapters I did find myself falling into the world of the characters and not questioning everything so much.
Rowena was a character who I bonded with well. She was quite lost in her life and plodded along but as soon as Caedmon, the prince was in her life, it was like a fire had been ignited and suddenly she was completely on fire, alive and ready to take on the world. Caedmon was a sexy prince! The descriptions of him were perfect and I felt like I could imagine him pacing in front of the mirror, trying to work out a way to get the key. There was a very graphic sex scene between the pair, so be warned that it’s a little bit steamy!
The book ended on a cliff-hanger, but I believe there are more books to come in this series and I look forward to reading them. It was only 100 or so pages which meant you could read it in one sitting or you can read little snippets on your commute.
This is a fantasy romance novel that should definitely be on your TBR list. Reviews for the other books in the series will soon follow!
