Santa Wore Leathers - Vonnie Davis
Published: 28/11/13
Publisher: Harper Impulse Pages: 105 Santa Wore Leathers is the first Christmas title from Harper Impulse that I have read. I was unsurprisingly drawn to this book by the cover which I'm sure will draw many more people too! I did enjoy this book but I felt that I could have perhaps enjoyed it more... |
This novel revolves around Becca and her new man-whore neighbour Dan or 'Wolf' as he's otherwise known. When he moves in, Becca automatically dislikes him due to the stream of women that are falling out of his front door and she starts to blog on her site about this new neighbour. Wolf has a different opinion when he meets Becca the first time and he can't help but be completely taken by her. As Christmas draws nearer, can Wolf and Becca finally make friends and can they both have a stress free Christmas in each others arms?
This is a novella and I think that's where it went a little wrong for me. Don't get me wrong, it was well written and the plot was good, the characters were good etc but I just felt the pace was far too fast. It felt like there wasn't much time between everything that happened so it was quite suffocating to read about everything at such a fast pace. If the pace had slowed down, we'd had more time to find out about Becca's background and more out about Wolf then I think this book would have been so much better. I felt like we joined the action far too quickly and didn't have a chance to take in everything that was happening because it was just so fast!
Vonnie's writing was fantastic in some places but in others it just felt a little rushed and some sentences felt a little weak. There was a lot of sexual tension built up over the course of the book and again, I felt like the moment that they finally came together wasn't as powerful as I was hoping it could be. It was rushed and quickly moved on to the next scene.
However, I enjoyed reading this novella and I think it's the perfect small story for someone who wants to read something to get them in the Christmas spirit. I would be SO excited if Vonnie worked on a longer version of this novella or was to write a prequel of novel length so we could explore Becca and Wolf in more detail because they are such intriguing characters!
A short and sweet Christmas read about one man, one woman and a dog with an obsession for thongs....
