Save The Date - Allie Spencer

Save The Date is Allie’s latest book and what a treat it was!
Following on from her two most recent novels, Summer Loving and Summer Nights, Allie has set this book during the summer in a foreign country surrounded by sun, sea and well, in this case, annoying family! Alicia is invited to her cousin Jess’ wedding and is extremely reluctant to go until she receives an email from Jess telling her that is it a matter of life and death and Alicia must attend. Worried, Alicia packs her bags and gets ready for a week away in Italy for her cousin’s wedding.
When Alicia arrives in Italy she is quickly thrown into a massive family crisis and has to try and deal with multiple arguments as well as Nick who has turned up out of the blue.
Nick is her husband who she hasn’t seen since running away from him in the middle of the night at least three months ago. What is he doing in Italy in the same hotel as Alicia? Why is Jess’ dad being so secretive? Why is there a great sense of danger on the island? Will Jess end up getting married and will Nick and Alicia ever have the chance to talk about what happened before the week is up?
I raced through this book as the plot left me wanting more and more. I wanted to find out about all the family secrets, I was engrossed in the will they, won’t they buzz surrounding Alicia and Nick and lastly I just had to keep reading to find out about the ADOREABLE little dog Arthur (he is a stray dog that finds Alicia). Like all of Allie’s novels the pace is just perfect; the way she writes makes it impossible to put down. There were so many sub plots within this book and the action kept changing from one plot to the other that it kept me on edge and had me trying to quickly work out what had happened. I think this book may take a tiny bit of extra concentration to keep track of who’s who; normally I struggle with lots of characters but not in this case!
This is the perfect summer read that will have you wishing you were in Italy and will have you desperate for a little dog!
