When I saw the cover for this book a few months ago I began to hyperventilate. The title of the book and the way it looked just screamed READ ME and so I did.
Kate ran away from home when she was 18 to start a new life for herself in London. She managed to bag herself an exciting job a beautiful house and a gorgeous husband called Matt. However she has recently moved back to her home town of Lyme because she has been made redundant and her relationship has failed. She moves into her late grandmothers house and begins to reflect on how her life went so wrong. Her sister Prue is about to get married to Ben but he doesn’t have anywhere to live so moves into Kate’s grandmothers house with her. She decides that she is going to train Ben to be a better husband that Matt ever was and therefore starts to see him as her Foster Husband. Along the way Kate learns that maybe sometimes she wasn’t always right and how running away from you past is never a good idea because one day it will catch up with you….
Firstly, the plot was very different to what I was expecting; but not in a bad way. The main character Kate has a few secrets and is hiding things from her past that are slowly revealed throughout the book. The narrative switches between the past and present very clearly which added lovely layers to the plot. There is some great humor within this book, I especially loved the character of Ben and his complete lack of ability to pick up on social cues and I laughed out loud when he was trying to be macho in the kitchen and nearly ended up doing the splits! I loved the Christmas party incident too with the Christmas tree….you’ll have to read this book to find out what I mean!!
I managed to get through this book in less than 24 hours so would definitely recommend it!
