Victoria Fox - Wicked Ambition

If you haven’t read any of Victoria Fox’s novels before you are certainly missing a treat. She is up there with the masters of the great ‘bonkbuster genre’. Her stories are multi layered and intelligently crafted, her characters are well rounded and the books contain more than a little naughtiness.
Wicked Ambition is the story of 3 starlets, their rise to fame and what happens to them when they get there.
Kirsten is a somewhat naive child star hoping to make the transition into the grown up showbiz world. Robin is a tough Londoner who was thrust into the limelight by winning a reality talent show and is fast becoming the biggest music star on the plane and Turquoise, a seasoned pro in the charts, is a little older and far more experienced that the other girls but this doesn’t mean she is happy with her life.
Whilst the three stories begin separately it becomes clear that the woman’s worlds are going to collide in spectacular fashion and Victoria Fox ensure the plot and subplots are gripping with plenty of twists and turns. It’s very difficult to explain the plot in detail without giving too much away but think stalkers, sadomasochistic relationships, award ceremonies, pushy mothers, star-studded parties, long-lost families, rivalries and lots of sex and you won’t be disappointed.
Victoria Fox writes strong likable women who you want to see succeed and although some of the characters are reminiscent of ‘real-life’ famous folk this certainly doesn’t detract from the storyline. The lead characters are exactly what you would expect from a traditional bonkbuster – strong, smart, and independent. As well as the three female leads there are several other characters that add depth and support the plot very well. There are a few likeable (and in the case of two – very unlikable) men in the book – some of which are integral to the story whilst other are there just for pleasure.
I really enjoyed reading Wicked Ambition, the story was fast paced and very intriguing. I really couldn’t put it down and actually sneaked extended ‘comfort breaks’ at work in order to read it. Would highly recommend for those who like superstars, sex and shenanigans galore!
