Aven Ellis is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and when she sent me an ARC for her latest novel Waiting For Prince Harry I was over the moon. Last year I had the pure joy of diving into Connectivity, Aven’s debut, and I still cannot stop thinking about William and MK! I adored their story.
Waiting For Prince Harry was as much of, if not more of, a delight than Connectivity. Harrison Flynn is –the- hottest hockey player around and when Kylie falls into his lap at the wedding reception of her brother, she has no clue that she’s just fallen into the arms of a sex god! She knows he’s good looking and she loves his personality but has no idea he’s a mega sports star! So, when he turns up at her work the next day and everyone is in shock, Kylie realises that Harrison is not quite the man she thought he was.
Kylie soon finds that she loves the real Harrison but senses it’s not easy fancying a super famous sports star and soon she is faced with the biggest question of her life: Is Harrison her true Prince Harry?
Aven has the amazing ability to write stories about REAL women and ensure her protagonists are very relatable characters. They have characteristics and traits that nearly all readers will be able to sympathise with which makes for a fantastically personal read. Not only are her female characters spot on, her male characters are also the PERFECT mix of sexiness, chivalry and intelligence. Her fictional men are not idiots or rude or arrogant: they are the epitome of the perfect man.
Waiting For Prince Harry has the perfect pace which keeps you glued to the pages. As a reader, you are desperate to find out what is going to happen next and Aven ensures there are plenty of obstacles waiting around the corner. Waiting For Prince Harry also excels in the layout: each chapter begins with a question from a Pop-Quiz and these were brilliant interludes and also hinted as to what was to come in the chapter.
As always, Aven has got the perfect narrative voice for the genre she is writing in. There are touches of humour but she also examines some not so comical topics with sensitivity, knowledge and care. I loved the small mention of mental health, it was a great thing to have included and I did a little ‘yay’ when I read it! There are also really clever observations of brother/sister and work colleague relationships and these felt very realistic and allowed me to fall into Kylie’s world even quicker.
This book is one not to be missed. If I could I would read Aven’s books over and over again!
This is the perfect spring/summer read and will have you smiling from ear to ear although might leave you desperate to fall into the lap of a very handsome stranger…!
