I devoured this book extremely quickly, it was a nice length (about 250 pages) which meant I could finish it in one day. This is the first book I have really read from the ‘new-adult‘ genre and it was a nice surprise. It is clear that Karlene has done research into the biker way of life and I felt myself learning about a whole new part of society as I turned each page. Sky is a character that you instantly fall in love with and I found myself genuinely concerned about what was going to happen in her life. There were some characters in the book that I would have loved to have heard more about e.g Bella and Sky’s grandparents and it would have been interesting to hear more about Sky’s childhood.Whisky State Of Mind is a new-adult novella about Whisky (Sky) who is trying to discover what she really wants in life. Sky feels that her life should be a bit more than just working in a diner and fantasising over the beautiful smelling man she sees in the coffee shop everyday. Sky has escaped a past of danger but now feels that her life is rather mundane and boring in comparison. That is until Sawyer Riley turns up on the scene with a proposition that would throw her back into a world of vulnerability. Sky has only just discovered her freedom and wants to hang onto it, but how can she move forward with her life when her past keeps getting in the way?
This is a well written book that will take you into a world of characters that won’t leave you alone; as I read this book I took a few breaks to eat and do some chores but I found my brain couldn’t switch off and stop thinking about what was going to happen to these characters next. I love books that can get into your head like that.
This book is definitely worth a read and is a lovely manageable length. Thank you Karlene for giving me a copy to review.
