Basically I wish I was Lindsey Kelk. To live in her head and craft all the fabulous characters we meet in this novel would be propa’ good.
I think most readers in the chick-lit genre would hold their hands up high to say they have read and loved Lindsey’s books (myself included). So when we heard the news that there was a new book on the way we all started freaking out and doing a happy dance. I did an even happier dance when the book landed on my doorstep and an even bigger one (if possible) when I started to read it.
Tess Brookes is in a bit of a muddle. She’s been made redundant, has the biggest crush on her male BFF and is living with, for want of a better word, a bitch. So when Tess suddenly answers a phone call that isn’t intended for her and decides to hop on a plane to Hawaii to pretend to be a photographer her life suddenly seems to be looking up a bit….right? I mean what’s nicer than spending a whole week in Hawaii in a gloriously expensive apartment on the beach with a handsome man staying next door and a camp waiter attending to your every whim? Well, Tess is about to find out that this scene isn’t so picturesque and she may have made the biggest mistake ever getting on the plane.
Firstly, I loved Tess’ voice. Her attitude and language were SO easy for me to relate too. I’m a bit of a potty mouth so when Tess was describing something using rather naughty language, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her a little bit more. Kekipi, the camp waiter, was just divine. I could so easily picture him strutting his stuff along the beach, tray in hand, little bum wiggling. He was the voice of reason for Tess and was constantly pushing her to take risks and stuck up for her the whole time (what a gem).
Tess’ male BFF, Charlie, I really warmed too but some fellow reviewers seem to think he’s a knob (sorry, naughty word) so I would love to hear what other people think about him. The gorgeous man staying next door to Tess was called Nick and well, what’s better than a bad boy with a penchant for sexy time?
The plot was original and didn’t have the cliche’s I was expecting although there was one small piece of the plot that I had worked out well before it was revealed *cough* the man on the beach *cough*. Overall though it will have you gripped and Lindsey’s writing style makes it feel like no effort at all to read.
I loved Lindsey before this book and I love her even more now. She’s my biggest girl crush.
If you’ve never read any of Lindsey’s books before then I suggest you pick one up NOW! And, if you have then this is just another example of how good Lindsey is.
A funny, witty and addictive book about how one moment of spontaneity can completely transform your life.
