I absolutely adored this book. From the moment I saw the cover, I knew I had to read it.
The tagline, ‘you never forget your first love’, really struck a chord with me and it made me desperate to hear these characters stories. When I first started reading I was pretty sure it had been categorized wrong; at my local library it is classed as Adult Fiction but I am so surprised that it is not YA (apparently it is in some countries).
Anybody who has ever been in love or experienced a teenage romantic relationship will be able to easily relate to these characters. Their situations may be different, but the experience of love and being in your first real relationship is something that most readers will be able to relate too.
I fell in love with Eleanor and Park so easily. I wanted their story to be real.
Park always gets the bus to school and one day a new girl gets on. She looks weird and no one wants to sit next to her, but Park offers her the seat next to him, but they don’t talk. They sit next to each other every day but still never find anything to talk about. However, one day, Park gives her a comic and soon they cannot stop talking, wanting to spend every moment together. Eleanor has a hard home life and this begins to affect the relationship she has with Park. What follows is a heart-warming, emotional story of what it is like to fall in love with the person you least expect and how being in love is never easy.
Rainbow writes with a passion that comes through the pages; every word and sentence seems to be so perfectly formed. Putting this book down was difficult and I kept having to read just one more chapter! I finished it in under 24 hours but I am rather gutted it ended so soon, I want to live with these characters for a little longer.
I can’t recommend this book enough. A true beauty which will surely be a classic one day.
