NOTE: If you haven’t read the first book in this series then don’t read this review yet because it contains spoilers about the first book.
At the end of the first book, we’d left Sean and Scarlett well and truly enjoying their perfect fairytale ending and at the beginning of this one, we re- join them living together. Early on we see that Sean is deep in work and Scarlett is a little bored with her job after her dad left to take care of the business in New York. When Sean suggests Scarlett takes a trip to visit her dad for a few weeks, she decides it might just be what she needs for a little bit of adventure in her life; after all, Scarlett can’t sit still for very long!! Joined by Oscar, yes, he’s back and makes more of an appearance (hooray!), she jets off to the Big Apple.
Once she arrives, things don’t go quite to plan and amongst hunky sailors, TV correspondents and a spontaneous TV appearance, Scarlett starts to realise who and what the most important things in her life are, ultimately reaching the conclusion that maybe her life can be just as good as the films.
Wow, I just love these characters so much! After I finished From Notting Hill With Love Actually yesterday evening, I was desperate to read this one; so I picked it up and devoured it in less than a day. I can’t explain how great Scarlett and Oscar are as characters together and Sean is just as hunky and lovely as he was in the first novel. There are some new additions to the cast that fit right in but the return of all the old characters cheered me right up! We hear less from Maddie, Ursula and Scarlett’s mum but they all make an appearance in quite possibly the most romantic book scene ever! You’ll have to read the book to find out what I’m talking about!
Seeing Scarlett and Sean again was interesting too as we see how they’ve developed as people and as a couple since we last saw them. Scarlett is certainly a lot happier with Sean by her side and it’s lovely to see Sean’s more emotional side as opposed to the quite guarded one we saw in the first book. Oscar, like I mentioned, plays a large role in this novel and it was just hilarious to read about all the things he got up to, especially with hunky sailors….!
As always, Ali’s writing is fun, easy to read and incredibly well paced. I never notice how fast I’m turning the pages when I read one of her novels because time just seems to stop and I forget I’m in the real world! I get so lost in the characters and their story; this to me signals a perfect book.
I can guarantee that you will love this sequel and you will be laughing, crying and ‘ahhing’ in delight as you follow Scarlett around New York. I have also head on the grapevine that there is a third book to come that will follow on from this novel…HOW EXCITED AM I?!
VERY!
Rejoin Scarlett and her fabulous friends as she navigates life in New York, complete with a treasure hunt, Colin Firth and Bradley Cooper.
