After reading Dating In The Dark Pete very kindly sent me a few of his other books. I read a lot of reviews on Amazon about this book and I was really excited to give it a read.
It is one of the most original and unique books I’ve ever read. (And that’s a good thing!)
The Village Idiot Reviews is a book about the locals in one village but is told through Amazon reviews of various products. As you progress through the book, each review of an item gives you stories about what happens in the village and you feel like you know everyone really well by the end of the book, even though you’ve never actually met them in the narrative! It’s a very clever idea and may sound confusing but I promise you that it is genius!
My favourite review was the ‘Fantasy Villa – Woodcraft Construction Kit’; that one really did have me in stitches. As did the electric fly swatter! The village residents are all such funny characters; a alcoholic priest and an elderly lady who likes to pelt rice at newly married couples are just two of the fabulous cast.
Pete has such a fantastic writing style; his humour is spot on and you just want to keep on reading and reading! There is a second book in this series called More Village Idiot Reviews and I am seriously excited to start that one and rejoin these characters.
A really witty, clever and original way of telling the tales of a group of idiotic villagers!
